Meet Jennifer Cruz

Jennifer Cruz of Bridgeton, was an underemployed single mother a short time ago. Jennifer realized she needed to learn new skills in order to provide a better life for her family. “My kids are my motivation and I'm all they have," she said.

Family responsibilities prevented Jennifer from completing the Licensed Practical Nurse program she started at Cumberland in 2012. But in 2018, she returned to college and completed a workforce development course to become a Medical Administrative Assistant. Jennifer's externship quickly turned to full-time employment.

“I've gained experience and skills on the computer, and with scheduling, filing, inventory and giving vaccinations," explained Jennifer. “Working in the medical field makes me see things differently in life. The best part for me is being hands on with patients."

Jennifer plans to stack her credentials and further her education by completing Cumberland's Medical Coding and Billing, and Electronic Health Records Specialist programs.

“It's never too late to make moves in life and to better yourself," Jennifer said.
