Testing for Credit

​​​CLEP® — College Level Entrance​ Program

Rowan College is an official test site for the CLEP® program. This program enables students to gain college credit for accumulated knowledge and experience through examination. Students accumulate college credit toward a degree by demonstrating knowledge gained independently in over 30 exam areas. CLEP® tests are available by appointment at the Testing Center.​

Make an Appointment
  1. Schedule an appointment at Gloucester​ or Cumberland for the test​
  2. Choose the CLEP from the pull-down menu.​
  3. Choose an available date and time.
  4. Complete the form as instructed. You may use your cell or home phone number as your student ID number.
  5. Specify the subject in the Special Instructions.
  6. Click Finalize Appointment to make the appointment.

Students should first meet with their advisor to discuss which specific CLEP exams apply to their program version. Then, if students have questions regarding actual CLEP course equivalencies, they can email Testing at: [email protected].​

Please note: ​Students attending other institutions of higher education should inquire with the school of choice as to the CLEP exams & scores accepted at that institution.​

Where can I obtain test content information to prepare for the test?
CLEP®:  www.collegeboard.com/clep 

Do I have to pay for the test?
  • Yes, there is a $30 fee payable to the Testing Center at Gloucester and a $30 fee payable to the One Stop at Cumberland (receipt must be brought to the Testing Center on exam day.).
  • In addition, there is a fee for each test, visit the above web site for current test fees.  

How do I determine RCSJ course equivalencies, and to learn more about each exam?

  • AP Advanced Placement, CollegeBoard
  • CLE​P® College Level Examination Program, CollegeBoard
How long is the test?
The CLEP® is approximately 90 minutes long (1.5 hours).

How do I register for the test?
CLEP  testers must create a ticket and pay for their test at the CLEP website (listed above) before coming to take the test. Students must bring this ticket and payment receipt to the test session. 

*The name on your photo ID and your ticket registration must match exactly.​​

What do I need to bring when I take the test?
  • Photo ID and another form of ID
  • Credit card
  • The name of the test you want to take
  • Your cell phone must be left in your car.
How do I obtain my results?
Results are available immediately after the test, except the CLEP® College Composition Test.

May I retake the test?
CLEP® may be retaken after 3 months.​

How does my school receive the results?
When you take the test, the registration portion asks where you want your scores sent. The test report is mailed to the school you indicated.​​

How do I go about having test scores reviewed for the transfer of college credit:

  • RCSJ students should follow the Transfer Credit procedures to have exam scores evaluated for transfer of college credit.
  • Non-RCSJ students should consult their choice institution for course equivalencies and transfer policies. 

​​*CLEP scores are mailed to the institution indicated on the CLEP® test screen.

Outside Academic Testing​ 
Outside testing is a service for students attending another institution and have requested Rowan College to serve as a proctor for their test.​ Students must contact their college or university to find out the procedures they need to follow to take their exam at Rowan College.​​​​​​
