Course Outline:
1. Medical Terminology: Students will learn the foundational language of medicine, including prefixes, suffixes, and root words. Understanding terminology is crucial for effective communication in healthcare settings.
2. Vital Signs: Instruction will cover the techniques for measuring and interpreting vital signs—such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and temperature—along with their significance in assessing patient health.
3. Basic Anatomy and Physiology: An overview of the human body’s systems and structures will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how the body functions. This knowledge is vital for recognizing normal versus abnormal conditions.
4. Computers in the Medical Office: As technology plays a significant role in healthcare, students will gain proficiency in using medical software for patient management, electronic health records, and telehealth practices.
5. Front Office Procedures: This module will focus on the administrative aspects of a medical office, including appointment scheduling, patient intake, insurance verification, and billing processes.
6. OSHA Standards: Understanding Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations is critical for maintaining a safe work environment. Students will learn about workplace safety practices and protocols to minimize hazards.
7. First Aid and CPR: Students will receive hands-on training in basic first aid techniques and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), preparing them to respond effectively in emergencies.
8. Medical/Surgical Aseptic Technique: This section will teach students the principles and practices of asepsis to prevent infection during medical and surgical procedures.
Assessment and Real-World Application: Throughout the course, students will engage in practical exercises, case studies, and simulations to reinforce their learning.
