RCSJ and Brooks Brothers Present: "Suit a Student” Virtual Career Readiness Fashion Show

Suit a Student
9/10/2020

Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) and Brooks Brothers' fourth annual “Suit A Student" career readiness fashion show, originally planned as a live event in April, has reemerged well-tailored for social distancing requirements. During a webinar held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at 7 p.m., 14 student participants and 1 RCSJ employee and member of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) will walk the virtual runway perfectly “suited" for academic and professional success.

Traditionally held in the College's Fine Arts Center, changes were put in place to ensure the safety of all students, staff and other participants. The webinar event blends live components including messages from Dr. Frederick Keating, RCSJ's President and Dr. Patricia Claghorn, Dean of Business Studies with pre-recorded runway segments filmed individually with each student, using minimal staff and under strict COVID-19 safety guidelines. Runway fashion commentary will be provided by Fernando Arroyo, Manager of the Gloucester Premium Outlets Brooks Brothers store. The event will conclude in a live Q&A session where the audience can learn more about the student-models, their career goals, and the many benefits of being selected for the “Suit A Student" program.

This is the fourth year that the fashion show, spearheaded by RCSJ's Foundation, features the stylish clothing and accessories of Brooks Brothers, in addition to students receiving fashion advice and business etiquette tips from the company's experienced salespeople. What makes this collaboration even more extraordinary is a commitment from local businesses to help students feel more confident as they go forth into the working world.

Generous corporate and individual sponsors, including the AAWCC; Bellia; Brooks Brothers; Michael Girone and Dr. Carole Subotich; Gloucester County Institute of Technology; Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce; HFM Investment Advisors, LLC; Hoffman's Exterminating Co., Inc.; Inspira; Jefferson Health; Laraine Knauss, SHRM, SCP; Laura Bishop Communications; Marlene Loglisci; Mary Malinconico; Danielle Morganti; Paulsboro Refining Company; PCH Technologies; Republic Bank; Rothman Animal Hospital; Rowan University Rohrer College of Business; South Jersey Federal Credit Union; the RCSJ chapter of Student Veterans of America; Dr. Robin Weinstein and Wilmington University School of Business have each contributed to “suit" a student, dressing them for future success.

The career readiness fashion event highlights the attributes and goals of each RCSJ student model. Students were required to submit an application to become one of the 15 lucky participants to receive a suit, dress or outfit, including accessories and a makeover.
