Central Service Technician

​​Central Service Technicians are crucial members of the medical field and usually work in clinics, hospitals, doctors' offices and other settings that use medical equipment. They're responsible for maintaining a sterile environment and preventing patient infection. Our training program will provide you with 140 hours of instruction and a 400-hour externship opportunity. Central Service Technicians are in demand and the field is expected to add over 7,000 jobs through 2031, which is a much faster growth rate than many other jobs!

A Central Service Technician plays an important role in indirectly providing patient care. A Central Service Technician prepare, install, assemble, clean and sterilize all the health care and laboratory equipment used in medical exams, surgeries and other clinical procedures. They ensure strict adherence to sterilization processes and assure that instruments, equipment and supplies are safe for reuse across patients on a daily basis.

Employers typically require prospective Central Service Technicians to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.  Our sterile processing program offers combination of classroom instruction and the required clinical education to apply for the to prepare for the national certification.

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) credential​​
The Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) credential Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) [formerly IAHCSMM] is ideal for entry-level and existing technicians who possess the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to provide competent services as a central service technician. Our program provides classroom instruction and the mandatory clinical experience required for this credential. To earn certification through the HSPA, it's necessary to become a member of the organization. As a member, you receive access to HSPA training, and completing the program might increase your chances of passing the certification exam. Our CRCST course prepares you to test for this Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) credential. ​

​​​​After completing your Certified Registered Central Service Technician credential, you can register for the Certified Endoscopy Reprocess certification. CER Certification, is a specialty certification designed to prepare individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to pre-clean, test, decontaminate, inspect, disinfect and/or sterilize, transport, and store endoscopes in accordance with industry standards, guidelines and regulations, and manufacturers’ instructions for use.
