​​​Rowan College of South Jersey in conjunction with the CareerAdvance USA Grant Program offers pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs for those looking to build rewarding and well-paying careers in the high-demand field of advanced manufacturing. Apprenticeships are available to those with little to no knowledge of advanced manufacturing, along with those with a basic knowledge of the field.

Manufacturing Apprenticeship Programs

Certified Production Technician

Certified Production Technician

Certified Production Technicians use technology to set up, test, and adjust advanced manufacturing machinery or equipment. It is up to technicians to stay on schedule, anticipate maintenance needs, and work quickly to resolve issues that may impede productivity. Advanced manufacturing employers hire our students as machinists and maintenance technicians. Mechanically inclined individuals are strong candidates for this training. At the completion of this course, students will take four individual certificate assessments for the nationally recognized Certified Production Technician certification. The curriculum includes instruction on the following technology:      

Skills required:

A desire to work with machinery and a mechanical aptitude is recommended.      

Education

Students who successfully complete this training will receive an industry-recognized certification from the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC). The curriculum includes instruction on the following technologies: 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), Additive (3D) Manufacturing, Autonomous Robots, Augmented Reality, Data Analytics, Nanomanufacturing, Advanced Materials.       

Job Outlook

Technology is moving the advanced manufacturing industry quickly and the skills and training of Certified Production technicians will continue to increase in the job market.      

Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

This program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair and maintain industrial machinery and equipment such as cranes, pumps, engines and motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machinery as a maintenance technician.      

Skills required:

A desire to work with machinery and a mechanical aptitude is recommended.       

Education

At the end of the program, the graduate will be able to:       

  • Apply industry-recognized best practices to everyday workplace situations.
  • Understand how to maintain Hydraulic and Pneumatic system components and be able to take the appropriate steps to return a malfunctioning system to a functioning state.
  • Identify a malfunctioning power transmission component and take the appropriate steps to return the machine to a functioning state.
  • Understand electricity in all of its forms and how it is used to run motors and control systems of Mechatronic devices
  • Choose and apply proper welding and cutting techniques to create and maintain industrial and commercial mechatronic equipment.

Job Outlook

The employment of Industrial Maintenance Mechanic is projected to grow 8 percent from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations. Increased demand for advanced manufacturing will lead to more growth for Industrial Maintenance Mechanics.

Rowan College of South Jersey offers a variety of Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Bootcamps. These boot camps programs provide foundational technical knowledge and skills in the manufacturing sector while allowing students to gain an industry-recognized credential that will prepare them for employment or prepare them to upskill in their current role.
