ESL: How to Apply

Please follow this procedure to enroll:

Prospective International students, please visit the International Student page.

Do you have credentials from another country? Visit the World Education Services to have your credentials evaluated for use in the United States.

STEP 1
Complete the Application to RCSJ-Cumberland.

STEP 2
If you think that you may be eligible for Financial Aid, complete the online FAFSA application.  You must be a legal resident or citizen of the U.S. to qualify for financial aid. Be prepared and on time, as this process may take 5 to 6 weeks. Please check your RCSJ email account for notices and updates regarding your FAFSA application!

STEP 3
Next, contact CASS (the Center for Academic Student Support) which is located in the Enrollment Services Building near the cafeteria, and register to take the "ESL ACCUPLACER Test.” Students can drop in on Monday or Tuesday (see times below). NOTE: Students who test into ESL level 3 or higher will automatically be given the college placement math test.

View the Accupplacer Test page for test dates and times.
Location: CASS CENTER near the cafeteria

The test may take up to two hours, so make sure you plan for this. You will be tested in English Grammar, Reading, and Listening. You will also write a short composition. (Remember: Tell the testing administrator that you are there to take the "ESL ACCUPLACER TEST")

STEP 4
You should receive a telephone call or email (check your student email account!) from your adviser approximately 3-5 days after you take the test. Your advisor will set up an appointment with you. At your appointment, you will receive help choosing the courses which are appropriate for your level of English. You will also receive all of the necessary information about the ESL Program.

If you do not receive a phone call or email, please contact the ESL Coordinator, Mr. Donald Forcinito, at 856-200-4521, or email [email protected]. You may also contact Alice Soto, the ESL Resource Center Facilitator at 856-200-4519  or email [email protected].
