Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) and the Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission will host an art show opening — “Souls Shot: Portraits of Victims of Gun Violence" — on Thursday, Nov. 11, beginning at 1 p.m.

The compelling exhibit features portraits celebrating survivors of gun violence and memorializing those whose lives it has claimed. Artists and subjects were paired randomly for the project, with survivors, family and friends providing insight and information to inspire the artwork. The show presents diverse works of art that relay graphically or through narrative the essence of the person being portrayed. Artwork by RCSJ Associate Professor Eoin Kinnarney and Gloucester County artist Loren Dann are showcased in the exhibit.

“We hope that this project will continue to bring some joy and peace to the families and friends of victims and, by bringing attention to the scourge of gun violence in this way, be a call to action to all who see the portraits," stated Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Administrator Erika Gardner.

The two-hour reception, held in the College Center's Dr. Ross Beitzel Art Gallery, includes music and the opportunity to meet the artists and special guests. Free parking is available a short walk from the gallery.

The exhibit runs Nov. 9 through Dec. 23 at the RCSJ–Gloucester campus, with gallery hours Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. or by appointment. In January, the “Souls Shot" exhibit will be on display at RCSJ's Clay College in Millville.
