Students getting advisement from Rowan College staff

Advisement at Gloucester

Undecided Students

Uncertainty about a college major or future occupation is not unusual. In fact, many students are unsure of what field to study or have trouble narrowing their choices because they have a variety of interests and skills. Approximately 25 to 50 percent of students entering college are undecided about their majors. On average, two of every three students will change their majors at least once — if not several times — before focusing on a specific direction.

Explore Interests and Skills
To select a major that is a good fit, students need to explore and learn more about their interests and skills. To gain a better understanding of themselves, students should complete this brief questionnaire.

All students, regardless of their majors, are required to take general education classes. Students who have not declared a major are advised to follow the General Education curriculum while investigating subjects of interest through courses and electives.

Discover Choices and Take Action
Through individual appointments, workshops and Rowan College's Student Success courses, students who are undeclared/undecided will:

  • Define skills, interests and abilities
  • Explore and establish educational goals and career options
  • Research information and learn more about academic majors and related careers
  • Connect with the advisor for guidance and, when ready, learn how to declare a major
  • Receive direction on how to pursue the chosen degree program
