Rowan College of South Jersey’s apprenticeship programs are unique, flexible instruction programs combining in-demand industry related training with structured on-the-job learning experiences. An apprenticeship is first and foremost a job and comes with substantial training and the development of transferable skills, which is beneficial to the employer and the employee. The goal for our apprenticeship programs is to provide workers with skill sets that meet the specific needs of employers and with careers that are in high demand.

​Complete 254 hours of training with 1000 hours of on the job experiences, earn the national Patient Care Technician Credential and begin a career as a Patient Care Technician.
​RCSJ offers boot camp pathways for students to learn the knowledge and skills required to enter and advance in the field of Advanced Manufacturing.

Core Components

  • ​​Employer Driven: An Apprenticeship is essentially a job. The apprentice must be hired by a company. Investing in an apprentice shows companies want the employee to build a career there.
  • On the Job Learning: The company chooses a mentor to train the apprentice in On the Job Learning. This person could be a seasoned employee who is an expert with comapny knowledge to share. 
  • Related Technical Instruction: Rowan College of South Jersey provides the educational component of the apprenticeship program. All of our apprentieship programs lead to a national industry recognized credential.
  • Wage Increases: Apprentices should receive a wage increase at least at the completion of the program to recognize the increase in skills, experience, and credentials gained. The wage schedule is between the apprentice and company.
National Credentials: Aside from earning the national credential as it relates to their program of study, the apprentieship program results in a nationally recognized credential from the Department of Labor certifying the apprentice is fully qualified for their occupation.

1. What apprenticeship programs are available?

RCSJ currently offers apprenticeships in both Certified Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician. RCSJ offers a pre-apprenticeship in Advanced Manufacturing for incumbent workers looking to learn and earn a credential in Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs).

2. How long are the programs?

The Certified Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician apprenticeships are one-year in length. Each apprenticeship has Related Technical Instruction and 2000 hours of On-the-Job Learning.

The Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Bootcamp in PLCs is about 10-12 weeks.

3. What is the cost?

The cost of the each pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship varies. You may also qualify for grant funding. Contact your local campus for the most up-to-date pricing.
