Testing for Credit

Testing for Credit

​CLEP® and DSST® are test-for-credit programs designed to offer college credit for accumulated knowledge and experience through examination. The Testing Center at Rowan College issues both CLEP and DSST exams. 

Advanced Placement (AP) exams can also be used to earn college credit. AP Exams are issued by high schools as a part of the Advanced Placement course.


Testing For Credit FAQ's

How do I make an appointment to take CLEP and/or DSST?

  • Visit Gloucester Testing or Cumberland Testing, depending on your campus and then select "Book an Appointment"
    • On Cumberland Campus, students will need to pay a $30 testing fee to the One Stop window, across from the bookstore. Bring that receipt with your CLEP receipt on exam day.​
  • Select the "CLEP/DSST/" option

How do I determine RCSJ course equivalencies, and to learn more about each exam?

  • AP Advanced Placement, CollegeBoard
  • CLE​P® College Level Examination Program, CollegeBoard
  • DSST​® DANTES Subject Standardized Test, Prometric

How do I go about having test scores reviewed for the transfer of college credit:

  • RCSJ students should follow the Transfer Credit procedures to have exam scores evaluated for transfer of college credit.
  • Non-RCSJ students should consult their choice institution for course equivalencies and transfer policies.
