The diagnostic medical sonographer performs sonographic examinations using high-frequency sound waves to visualize soft tissue structures, including the gall bladder, kidneys, pregnant uterus, and other organs as requested by the physician. For the vast majority of diagnostic procedures, the sonographer has total responsibility for the care and well-being of the patient and must be prepared to produce quality images with care and empathy.
