High School Option Program

Jump-start your college journey with RCSJ’s High School Option Program (HSOP). Earn affordable college credits while in high school, explore career paths, and stay ahead with flexible, future-focused learning opportunities.

What is HSOP? 

The High School Option Program (HSOP) gives all high school students the flexibility to take Rowan College of South Jersey courses at a discounted tuition rate—whether they want to take just one college course or begin working toward a degree. Completed courses can be applied to an RCSJ degree or transferred to other higher education institutions. Students gain valuable college experience, earn credits, and learn how to navigate college before high school graduation.

HSOP Steps to Apply

  • 1–

    Step One: Apply!

    Visit RCSJ.edu/Apply and select "Start Application"             

    • Create an Application Profile.
    • Submit a Dual Enrollment application for the Non-Matriculating program and High School Option program version.
      The following documents will need to be submitted after applying:
      • Standardized Test Scores
      • Permission to Enroll Form
  • 2–

    Step Two: Satisfy the Placement Test Requirement!

    Visit RCSJ.edu/Exemptions. If a student does not have any of the qualifying scores, they must take the Placement Test. Visit RCSJ.edu/PlacementTesting to make an appointment and obtain test prep resources.

  • 3–

    Step Three: Meet with an Advisor & Register for Courses! 

    Visit RCSJ.edu/HSOP/Appointments to register with the advisor assigned to your school. Students are strongly encouraged to bring a copy of their High School transcript to their advising appointment.

HSOP - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Receive a tuition discount of $75 per credit and no course/lab fees 
    • However a $23 per credit fee is charged forFirst Day Complete, RCSJ's textbook and course material program 
  • Access to an unlimited number of courses during RCSJ's fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters 
  • Satisfy requirements: 
    • college degree requirements 
    • high school graduation requirements (speak with your HS counselor) 
  • Complete required remediation, if applicable 
  • Explore career pathways by taking program specific courses 
    • Career and major exploration assessments  are also available to help students better understand their interests 
  • Personalized academic advisement & registration assistance  
  • Learn in a safe & secure environment  
  • Full and free access to all Rowan College services, clubs and activities 
    • Participation in RCSJ Athletics is not available to HSOP students  
  • Learn how to navigate higher education prior to high school graduation  

  • Students 14 to 18 years of age 
    • The spring semester of the senior year is the last opportunity to enroll as an HSOP student 
  • In-county & out-of-county residents 
  • Students who attend: 
    • Public school 
    • Private school 
    • Homeschool   

  • General Education electives 
  • Career interest (program specific) courses 
  • Educational Foundations (remedial) courses
  • All methods of delivery. Course types include: Lecture, Hybrid, Live Online & Online 

Students should consult the NJ Transfer website to learn how Rowan College South Jersey courses will transfer to NJ institutions of higher education.  

Students looking to transfer their Rowan College credit to institutions outside of NJ should consult their school of choice.
