Program Learning
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is the initial level of certification available for emergency medical services personnel. EMTs are the first to respond to the injured in emergency incidents such as automobile accidents or medical situations. They assess the nature and extent of injury, provide initial medical care and transport the patient to a hospital if necessary.
Students will be required to read their textbook as well as successfully complete detailed online course work every week and attend one night of classroom practical skills instruction per week, in addition to several Wednesday sessions during the program. In addition to the class sessions, students will be scheduled for clinical experiences in 9-1-1 dispatch centers, in both basic and advanced care EMS units, and in a hospital. Successful completion of this program allows students to sit for the New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician certification examination as well as the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians' certification examination.
