Program Learning
The Phlebotomy Technician program is a comprehensive 170-hour course designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in healthcare and eligibility for national certification. Students begin with 90 hours of classroom instruction covering the healthcare delivery system, medical terminology, safety procedures, collection materials and equipment, venipuncture and capillary techniques, and the medical, legal, and ethical aspects of blood collection.
Hands-on practice is emphasized, and students must successfully complete a minimum of 30 venipunctures and 10 capillary sticks to qualify to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam. Upon completion of the classroom portion, students advance to an 80-hour supervised clinical externship at a local healthcare facility, where they gain real-world experience performing phlebotomy procedures in a professional setting.
