Adult Center for Transition
The Adult Center for Transition (ACT) is dedicated to affording young adults with disabilities the vocational, educational, and social skills necessary to become independent and contributing members of society.

ACT offers two-year, post-secondary programs that nurture academic, vocational, and socialization skills in a supportive environment to help young adults with disabilities thrive in the classroom and the workplace. Programs are supported by an on-site social worker to provide counseling services, facilitate support groups, and to help students and their caregivers identify and navigate available resources.

Our Programs
These cohort-based programs are offered on both the Cumberland and Gloucester campuses, and tuition is based on semester and county of residence. Financial assistance may be available through the Rowan College of South Jersey Foundation.
Students will accomplish the following by participating in this program:
- Strengthen college-level reading, writing, and math skills
- Learn to navigate college resources and acclimate to a campus environment
- Prepare to take the Accuplacer (college placement test)
- Complete one, 3-credit college course, subsidized by RCSJ
- Enhance social skills
- Receive employment preparedness
- Optional participation in Reverse Job Fair
Students will accomplish the following by participating in this program:
- Develop a career pathway and a career-ready portfolio
- Acquire internship experience
- Enrich reading, writing, and math skills
- Practice time management
- Enhance social skills
- Receive employment preparedness
- Optional participation in Reverse Job Fair
ACT’s programs are staffed with an on-site social worker/case manager who:
- Promotes the general well-being of students
- Maintains ongoing relationships with students and their caregivers
- Facilitates social/emotional support groups and provides counseling
- Assists students and caregivers in utilizing appropriate community resources
- Serves as a liaison to community agencies
- Provides ongoing professional development to staff
Programs run concurrently with Rowan College of South Jersey’s academic calendar.
- Programs are available for two years (length of enrollment is based on personal growth and development)
- Program hours are typically 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday
- Enrichment programming may be offered at an additional cost
- Five-week optional summer enrichment program available
