Placement & Structure

Students are placed by initial assessment (ESL Accuplacer) into multi-level cohorts and progress through sequenced modules over one or two semesters, with embedded writing labs and regular instructor feedback. The program includes targeted grammar, vocabulary for academic discourse, and writing practice with citation styles.

Support & Outcomes

Support services include tutoring, academic advising, and student orientation to campus expectations. By program completion, students should demonstrate readiness for freshman composition (as measured by the exit assessment), improved academic communication skills, and the study skills needed to succeed in mainstream college English courses.

ESL- Adult Literacy – College & Career Readiness

The Adult Literacy ESL Program helps adult learners whose first language is not English to improve their English speaking, reading, and writing skills.  Students will have opportunities to gain computer skills, work readiness skills, enroll in college, and prepare for career training or employment opportunities. Students may also choose to prepare for the U. S. citizenship test. Classes will be offered in-person and online. Students that wish to enroll should be prepared with reliable internet services as well as a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.
