The Experiential Edge at RCSJ

Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) offers honors lab- and field-based research opportunities for every STEM major. These programs function as hands-on, internship-style, mentored experiences, providing an advantage when seeking transfer into highly competitive bachelor’s and master’s programs and when on the job hunt.

Many programs are offered in cooperation with Flagship Partner, Rowan University, which provides RCSJ students with unprecedented access to a Carnegie-classified, R2 public research university, its state-of-the-art research labs, and award-winning faculty.

The National Science Foundation describes research experience programs as “one of the most effective avenues for attracting students to and retaining them in science and engineering, and for preparing them for careers in these fields.”

Types of Opportunities

The ultimate entry-level lab experience is available here on RCSJ’s campuses. Get comfortable in a lab setting, while earning a paycheck and supporting your fellow STEM students.

Honors Research course offers all STEM majors three college credits and 10 hours per week of guided experience in a lab or field setting through Rowan University.

These 6–10-week summer programs are offered across a variety of disciplines in cooperation with Rowan University and are often paid through grant funding. Opportunities are constantly changing, but recent offerings include the Rowan University Chemical Assistant Training Program, Exploring the Adirondacks: A Field Course in Geology, Summer STEM Scholar Program in Microbiology, Honors Research in Biology, and the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University PULSE Program.

Take advantage of RCSJ's industry connections with per-diem compounding technician positions with Wedgewood Pharmacy, the Winstar Institute's Biomedical Training Program, or internships through Dow Chemical.

If you have reviewed all current honors research offerings and still cannot find the right fit for your goals, contact Dr. Christina Nase with your desired area of research and the RCSJ STEM team will work to identify the right research opportunity for you.

An Ivy-League Experience

The Princeton University Transfer Scholar Initiative is an 8-week summer program designed for community college students of all majors interested in exploring transfer possibilities. Students enroll in two for-credit courses, engage with Princeton faculty and students, and participate in transfer success programming.

Education Unique to Each Student

Research is so big at FDU, so I think being able to write that I've done research in my application was a huge deal. it really stands out and it's a great experience to build on.
