Fire Officer I

This 40-hour program will utilize modules based on NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications. This course will consist of classroom instruction and Job Performance Requirement (JPR) activities. This class will use the Jones and Bartlett textbook Fire Officer: Principles and Practice including Navigate Advantage Access, fourth edition.
Hazardous Materials Incident Commander

This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills to perform his/her role as the Incident Commander at an incident involving a release or potential release of a hazardous material. Some of the topics covered include personal protective clothing, decontamination, hazardous materials containers, branch functions within the incident command system, and the eight-step process for managing hazardous materials incidents. Successful completion of this course meets the NJ Division of Fire Safety requirements for Hazardous Materials Incident Commander certification.
Incident Command System I-300 (September 2026)

The I-300 course continues the IMS Training and consists of ICS Fundamental review, Unified Command, Incident/Event Assessment, Incident Objectives, Planning Process, Incident Resource Management, Demobilization, Transfer of Command and Closeout.
Students will be required to demonstrate the ability to develop Organizational Charts utilizing the associated IMS/ICS Forms, develop planning for the next operational period, develop and present an Incident Action Plan (IAP) and other group activities.
NFA Incident Safety Officer

This course is intended to provide either the “dedicated” safety officer or any member who might be assigned the role of “Incident” safety officer with skills to function effectively as the Safety Officer at fire department incident operations and training. The primary focus shall be on developing decision-making skills through the recognition of cues that affect personal safety. This is a National Fire Academy accredited course.
Auto Extrication I

This comprehensive 19-hour course will consist of both lecture and hands-on training. Participants will receive instruction and develop improved competency on all phases of auto extrication including: scene size-up, vehicle stabilization, removal of the vehicle from the entrapped patient, patient removal, etc.

This course, mostly hands-on, continues where Auto Extrication I left off. Using numerous skill stations and multi crash scenarios, students will be able to demonstrate the key principles and practices of safe and effective vehicle extrication practices.
Principles of Building Construction

This Building Construction Training Program will provide attendees with the requisite knowledge of building construction types, methods, materials, hazards and operational considerations that fire officers and firefighters need to acquire to achieve success on the fireground. Fire officers who attend the program will meet the building construction training requirements for Fire Officer I Certification in New Jersey.
Course is based on “Brannigan’s Building Construction for the Fire Service”.

The Heavy Vehicle Rescue program is a specialized program focusing on accidents involving large trucks and autos. The program eliminates time consumption of rescuers learning on the job. Precious minutes of the Golden Hour are saved thus reducing the mortality of those involved in accidents. Rescuers may apply these techniques immediately upon returning to their agency.
