The Rowan College of South Jersey–Cumberland campus jazz band and vocalists will showcase their musical talents at the annual concert.

The Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland campus jazz band will present its free, annual Jazz Showcase Concert on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m., in the Guaracini Center.

The Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland campus jazz band will present its free, annual Jazz Showcase Concert on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m., in the Guaracini Center.

The jazz band instrumentalists and vocalists will present repertoire from a variety of jazz genres and eras featuring the swing era, Latin jazz, and contemporary jazz selections.

Noted composers and arrangers such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Mercer Ellington, Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderly, Sammy Nestico, Gordon Goodwin, and Dave Wolpe, among others, will be represented during the concert.

“As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation, it is important that we celebrate the uniquely American art form, jazz,” said Joseph Akinskas, founding director of the RCSJ–Cumberland campus bands. “Its roots begin in New Orleans at the start of the 20th century, and the classic arrangements have carried forward, coupled with contemporary jazz compositions.
 
The Rowan College of South Jersey–Cumberland campus Jazz Showcase Concert will also take place at the Cumberland Mall on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m., for free. For information, contact Joseph Akinskas at [email protected].
