Program Learning Outcomes
The Carpentry Specialist certificate program will equip students with the practical skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the carpentry trade. This comprehensive program covers a wide range of topics, including construction safety, blueprint reading, framing, cabinetry, and finish work. Students will gain hands-on experience using a variety of tools and materials to complete both residential and commercial projects. Students will also have an introduction to building codes, structural design principles, and sustainable building practices. Through a combination of classroom instruction and practical workshops, students will develop the technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail required to work effectively in the carpentry industry. This program prepares graduates for a variety of career paths, from general carpentry to specialized areas such as cabinetry, framing, and woodworking.
Students who have completed the program will be able to:
- Understand safety, blueprints, building codes, and sustainable design of buildings
- Apply safe carpentry techniques with a variety of materials to framing and finish work in residential and commercial projects
- Analyze building design and blueprints to implement safe and up to code construction.

This program provides a great foundation for a career in the automotive trades – in dealership sales or service positions or different trades like electrical or HVAC. It’s a great stepping stone as a young adult and the possibilities are vast.
