Program Learning Outcomes
This curriculum is aligned to the required program objectives and student outcomes, as well as program effectiveness, for the entry-level program and will be assessed in accordance with AVMA CVTEA-accreditation standards.
Students who have completed the program will be able to:
- Achieve an appropriate depth of knowledge in all areas of veterinary medicine as it pertains to veterinary technology
- Apply the knowledge necessary to successfully complete the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) to function within the scope of practice of a credentialed veterinary technician
- Execute the essential skills developed by the American Veterinary Medical Association's (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA)
- Effectively and professionally communicate both written and verbal information to veterinary personnel and clients in a clinical setting
- Demonstrate the use of critical thinking skills to identify and solve problems in discipline-specific situations
- Contribute to the veterinary health care team while maintaining professional, legal, and ethical standards including a strong work ethic, personal responsibility, and compassion for animals and clients
Accreditation Note
RCSJ has submitted an application seeking initial accreditation from The American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technology Education and Activities (AVMA CVTEA). The submission and acceptance of our application does not guarantee accreditation, and applying for accreditation does not grant any temporary accreditation status. Students will be kept informed as to the status of accreditation. Though the Veterinary Technology program at Rowan College of South Jersey intends to attain accreditation, there is no guarantee that accreditation will be granted. Graduation from an accredited school is required to obtain credentials as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) in New Jersey.
Education Unique to Each Student
My experience at RCSJ has been very community oriented. My participation in the STEM club has been invaluable. I've also made other connections, like at Rowan University and Princeton University, offering one-of-a-kind research opportunities.
