Program Learning Outcomes
The goal of this program is to provide graduates with theory and practice through classroom study and internships, to qualify for immediate employment in the automotive industry, or to transfer to a four-year automotive management program.
Students who have completed the program should be able to:
- Safely and competently work in an automotive repair facility
- Understand all eight ASE areas of automotive technology regardless of manufacturer (these systems include but are not limited to: electrical, brakes, steering, power-train controls and automatic transmissions)
- Diagnose and fix all major automotive systems
- Demonstrate social skills and a high level of professionalism
The Automotive Technology program is a joint venture involving three cooperating participants: Rowan College of South Jersey, Gloucester County Institute of Technology, and the Ford Motor Company. Ford supports 38 other such programs throughout the United States under the name of ASSET (Automotive Student Service Educational Training).
Enrollment Instructions
Special admissions describes programs in which the applicant must meet additional admissions criteria. After completing the general RCSJ application and being accepted to the College, the applicant must submit a separate application (portfolio) for their program of choice. Each program accepts one cohort of students per academic year. Click the link to review the selective admissions requirements for this program.

Education Unique to Each Student
This program provides a great foundation for a career in the automotive trades – in dealership sales or service positions or different trades like electrical or HVAC. It’s a great stepping stone as a young adult and the possibilities are vast.
