ACADEMIC AMNESTY

Any student who previously attended county colleges at the Gloucester or Cumberland campuses is qualified for academic amnesty if that student meets the following criteria:

  1. Student had a cumulative GPA below 2.000
  2. Five (5) years have elapsed since the last term of attendance;
  3. Student desires to return to the College and complete a degree or certificate; and
  4. Has not previously been granted academic amnesty and this status may be granted only once per student.

Academic amnesty is an option a returning student must request prior to or during the first year of reentry after the five year absence.

Under academic amnesty, courses that were taken five years or more prior to readmission will appear on the transcript, but only those grades of “C-” or better will be counted for purposes of determining the cumulative GPA and credit toward graduation.

If academic amnesty is granted and any approved course(s) are required for the student’s current program of study, the student must re-enroll in the course(s) and earn the minimum grade needed to satisfy degree requirements. Please note that any courses previously used for conferral of a degree will not be eligible for Academic Amnesty.

Students who do not meet the criteria for academic amnesty are not eligible under this policy. However, such students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor or cohort counselor to develop a plan that supports their academic success.

Academic Amnesty cannot be used to reevaluate satisfactory academic progress for students applying for financial aid.
