ACADEMIC AMNESTY
Any student who previously attended county colleges at the Gloucester or Cumberland campuses is qualified for academic amnesty if that student meets the following criteria:
- Student had a cumulative GPA below 2.000 or was otherwise on probation or academic leave when last attended the College;
- Five (5) years have elapsed since the last term of attendance;
- Student desires to return to the College and complete a degree or certificate; and
- Has not previously been granted academic amnesty.
Academic amnesty is an option a returning student must request prior to or during the first year of reentry after the five year absence.
Under academic amnesty, courses that were taken five years or more prior to readmission will appear on the transcript, but only those grades of “C-” or better will be counted for purposes of determining the cumulative GPA and credit toward graduation.
A student requesting to be granted amnesty who does not meet the criteria will be required to work with an academic advisor/cohort counselor to develop his/her plan in writing. The academic advisor/cohort counselor will work with the returning student to establish a recovery plan and complete the Academic Amnesty form which will be applied at the conclusion of the re-enrollment term.
Academic Amnesty cannot be used to reevaluate satisfactory academic progress for students applying for financial aid.
