What is HSOP? 

 The High School Option Program (HSOP) provides high school students the opportunity to take RCSJ courses at a discounted tuition rate. Completed coursework can be applied to an RCSJ associate degree or be easily transferred to other institutions of higher education. In addition, RCSJ credits may satisfy high school graduation requirements through the N.J. Department of Education’s Option Two.

HSOP - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Receive a tuition discount of $75 per credit and no course/lab fees 
    • However a $23 per credit fee is charged forFirst Day Complete, RCSJ's textbook and course material program 
  • Access to an unlimited number of courses during RCSJ's fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters 
  • Satisfy requirements: 
    • college degree requirements 
    • high school graduation requirements (speak with your HS counselor) 
  • Complete required remediation, if applicable 
  • Explore career pathways by taking program specific courses 
    • Career and major exploration assessments  are also available to help students better understand their interests 
  • Personalized academic advisement & registration assistance  
  • Learn in a safe & secure environment  
  • Full and free access to all Rowan College services, clubs and activities 
    • Participation in RCSJ Athletics is not available to HSOP students  
  • Learn how to navigate higher education prior to high school graduation  

  • Students 14 to 18 years of age 
    • The spring semester of the senior year is the last opportunity to enroll as an HSOP student

  • All methods of delivery. Course types include: Lecture, Hybrid, Live Online & Online 

Students should consult the NJ Transfer website to learn how Rowan College South Jersey courses will transfer to NJ institutions of higher education.  

Students looking to transfer their Rowan College credit to institutions outside of NJ should consult their school of choice.   

HSOP Steps to Apply

  • 1–

    Step One: Apply!

    Visit www.rcsj.edu/apply and select "Start Application"             

    *RCSJ-Gloucester is no longer utilizing the High School Participation Form. HSOP students now apply through the online application*          

    The following documents will need to be submitted to the Office of Admissions but can also be uploaded to the RCSJ Student Portal once access is provided: 
               

    • Preliminary High School Transcript 
    • Standardized Test Scores (see testing exemptions below)  
    • Permission to Enroll Form - This form will be provided upon successful completion of the admissions application and will require a signature of a parent/guardian as well as a school counselor.

    Step Two: Satisfy the Placement Test Requirement! (Accuplacer) 

    All students are required to take the Accuplacer, or provide proof of testing exemption, prior to course advisement & registration assistance. The Accuplacer assesses proficiency in reading, writing & math and places students in College-level or Educational Foundations (remedial) courses. 

    • Submit Proof of Exemption to the Office of Admissions  
    • Make your Accuplacer Appointment: 
    • Cumberland Campus Testing Center 
    • Gloucester Campus Testing Center  

    It is strongly recommended students prepare for the Accuplacer by accessing Test Preparation & Practice Sites. Students must present a valid photo ID when checking in for the placement test.

    Step Three: Meet with an Advisor & Register! 

    • Individual Appointments 
      • Make an appointment with an Advisor! 
      • We encourage on-campus advisement & registration. However, this can be conducted virtually via  Zoom or by phone. Students must be present.  
    • HSOP Registration Event 
      • Contact your high school Counseling Office to learn when RCSJ will be visiting your school for HSOP advisement & registration.
